Project 90 - Regional Meetings

Our Regional Meetings Workstream is dedicated to expanding the reach of gastroenterology by actively engaging with all four regions across the UK. Our goal is to strengthen the interconnectivity between these regions, ensuring a more unified and collaborative approach to delivering high-quality gastroenterological care and education.

Meet the Project 90 Team
A key part of this initiative involves supporting and enhancing the activities of existing national Gut Clubs, which already play a vital role in fostering local learning and professional development. To further this mission, we are developing a series of collaborative, region-wide meetings that bring together healthcare professionals, academics, and stakeholders. These events will be held in partnership with established organisations such as the Welsh Association of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy (WAGE), helping to promote shared learning, regional representation, and the dissemination of best practices throughout the country. Through these efforts, we aim to build a stronger, more connected gastroenterology community nationwide.

Workstream Lead
Dr Umesh Basavaraju
Dr Basavaraju is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Successfully graduated with a PhD degree from The University of Aberdeen in 2012. Dr Basavaraju has special interest in Advanced endoscopy and has completed a fellowship in advanced endoscopy from the World-renowned Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad, India. Dr Basavaraju is very passionate about Endoscopy training and Quality improvement. He has served as the Scottish Lead for the ÌÇÐĹÙÍø EQIP programme through which he has delivered many Endoscopy QI workshops in Scotland. Currently is also a faculty on the National Endoscopy Training Programme (NETP) in Scotland. He is the Secretary of the Scottish Society of Gastroenterology (SSG) and is a ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Elected Councillor. He is the lead for “Taking ÌÇÐĹÙÍø to Regions” work stream of ÌÇÐĹÙÍø Project 90.
